CBS News Blaming Katie Couric for Low-Ratings

So Dan Rather says CBS News ratings are low due to Katie Couric being told to "dumb down the news" and "to tart it up." Uually I'm at work at 6:30pm so don't know about that but this week I set my VCR to tape one newscast 2-days ago.

I thought she did a good job. But after Walter Cronkite left(I watched daily because my parents watched)I never watched CBS News when Dan Rather was there either. Just my personal preference.

Meaning I don't think it's a case of a female newscaster but a case of if the news was intended for a younger audience as CBS had hoped, well, the plan backfired because either, a)mostly older people watch the news or b)with people being able to get news from the internet in an instant and too many newscasts people just tune out.
Information overload we definitely have nowadays.

Though I'm no Katie Couric fan by any means I get this strong hunch CBS screwed up in hiring Katie and CBS is blaming her instead of admitting "we made a mistake and should have qualified a woman who's more qualified."
