Lately there's been lots in the news about
Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper refusing to meet with U2's Bono at the G8 Summit in Germany. Harper says he's very busy but will meet with Bono at a later date.
Many are saying that Canada should honour its promise to help Africa. I've said it before and I'll say it again while I have no argument with helping others in need I say the Canadian federal government should help their own Canadian needy first. Help those in your own backyard. Besides, where's the money for Africa going? Is it really going to those in need? I want proof that the needy are truly being helped and that someone else is not pocketing the money intended for anyone anywhere in need.
Last night on CBC's The Hour with George StroumboulopoulosGeorge made a very good point. Canadians wonder how this guy(Bono)could meddle in Canada's business. I compare that with it's okay for you to pick on a family member but once someone who's not part of the family picks on them then you come to the person's or in this case the country's defense.
To help Africa it was promised in the late 1960s as I learned last night watching The Hour. Mr. Stroumboulopoulos is right that by us being upset with Bono we're being close-minded. However, I ask is it not close-minded of Bono to blame the Canadian government for not helping Africa while not once did Bono say anything, not that I'm aware of, of how the Canadian federal government shoulsd help people in their own backyard first?
